A Day in the Life of the Master

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Jesus' ministry is geared to spread goodness. His exhausting journeys and working days were marked by his service to those in need. That was one of many ways he attracted people. He was always available, and with compassion would attend to each and every one looking for his help. He refuses any temptation to return to a place and for a time for himself apart from his prayer time.

Sometimes he needs to be alone with the Father. An urgency to meet people and attend to them was always burning in his heart. The good news of salvation needs to reach as far and quick as possible. He goes towards people with the same speed people come towards him.

This lifestyle of Jesus needs to become the project of every disciple. Whoever decides to follow him has the charge and challenge to be doing good. The "caritas Christi", the charity of Christ must be what pushes him to do so (Caritas Christi urges me - The charity of Christ pushes me).

Pope Francis often warns priests against what he calls the "clock servants''. Those who work only during office hours and are not available like Jesus at all times. It can be directed to all disciples as well. The faithful disciple is a generous servant who is always ready to give a hand to all in need, especially those in need of mercy.

May the Holy Spirit enkindle in our hearts the "caritas Christi" so that in our family and in our community we may always serve generously. May he also transform our stewardship of time, talent, and treasure into a practical, real response to the needs around us.

Un Día en la Vida del Maestro

Queridos discípulos, paz.

El ministerio de Jesús está orientado a difundir la bondad. Sus agotadores viajes y jornadas de trabajo estuvieron marcados por su servicio a los necesitados. Esa fue una de las muchas formas en que atrajo a la gente. Él siempre estuvo disponible, y con compasión atendía a todos y cada uno de los que buscaban su ayuda. Rechaza cualquier tentación de regresar a un lugar o de tener un tiempo para sí mismo fuera de su tiempo de oración. A veces necesita estar a solas con el Padre. En su corazón siempre ardía la urgencia de conocer gente y atenderla. La buena noticia de la salvación debe llegar lo más lejos y rápidamente posible. Se acerca a la gente con la misma velocidad que la gente se acerca a él.

Este estilo de vida de Jesús debe convertirse en el proyecto de cada discípulo. Quien decide seguirlo tiene el encargo y el desafío de estar haciendo el bien. La "caritas Christi", la caridad de Cristo debe ser lo que le empuje a ello (Me insta Caritas Christi - La caridad de Cristo me empuja).

El Papa Francisco a menudo advierte a los sacerdotes contra lo que él llama los "sirvientes de reloj". Aquellos que trabajan sólo durante las horas de oficina y no están disponibles como Jesús en todo momento. Puede dirigirse también a todos los discípulos. El discípulo fiel es un servidor generoso que está siempre dispuesto a echar una mano a todos los necesitados, especialmente a los necesitados de misericordia.

Que el Espíritu Santo encienda en nuestros corazones la "caritas Christi" para que en nuestra familia y en nuestra comunidad sirvamos siempre con generosidad. Que él también transforme nuestra administración del tiempo, el talento y el tesoro en una respuesta práctica y real a las necesidades que nos rodean.
