Lector Ministry

Goals and Purpose:

Lectoring is a vocation (a calling from God’s Holy Spirit), a ministry (a service to the church community) and a job (requiring competence, skill, knowledge and preparation). Lectors are called to a deep relationship with God in order that God’s word, spoken through the Scriptures, may reach the hearts and souls of listeners.

Responsibilities:

Lectors serve on a rotation for weekend liturgies, currently monthly. They should arrive 20 minutes before Mass, follow the protocol learned in training, and find their own substitute when necessary. Volunteers must read and speak English fluently and be able to articulate clearly.

If you think you may be called to this ministry, contact the Parish Office at 615-893-1843.

Faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.
