The Sacrament of First Communion is celebrated at the beginning of May each year. Preparation for this Sacrament is done during class for St. Rose of Lima students and during PSR for students who are members of the St. Rose of Lima parish but do not attend Catholic school. PSR includes homeschooled students and distance learning students. The Sacrament of First Reconciliation is required to be received prior to the Sacrament of First Communion.
For students who are beyond second grade and have not yet received the Sacrament, will receive preparation through the Primary Delayed Sacraments PSR class. High school students who have not yet received the Sacrament will receive preparation through the High School Delayed Sacraments PSR class.
Any Catholic who has reached the age of reason (7 Years old), is in the second grade (or older), and is engaged in preparation (and on track to complete it by the Sacrament date) for the Sacrament of First Communion is eligible to receive in May.
Preparation for the Sacrament includes a retreat which is scheduled a few weeks prior to May.
Due to scheduling during Covid, the PSR (in English) students will be receiving a take-home retreat kit to do with their families.
PSR (in Spanish) will be having an in-person retreat and the parent permission form must be submitted a week prior to the retreat.
