First Reconciliation
Reconciliation is part of a lifelong faith journey that began at the Sacrament of Baptism. It is a beautiful Sacrament that is received prior to the Sacrament of First Holy Communion and brings us closer to Christ through forgiveness of sins. Preparation for this Sacrament is done during class for Saint Rose of Lima school students and during Religious Education for students who are members of the Saint Rose of Lima parish but do not attend Catholic school. Religious Education includes homeschooled students and distance learning students.
Our First Reconciliation program focuses on a family-oriented approach to preparing the student through catechesis, the Gospel, and discipleship.
The First Reconciliation preparation requirements are:
- Any Catholic who has reached the age of reason (7-8 years old) and is engaged in preparation (and on track to complete it by the Sacrament date) for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation to receive in mid-winter.
- Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must be registered and actively participating members of Saint Rose of Lima Church.
- Registration options:
- If the student is a current 2nd or 3rd grader and registers prior to the deadline, in addition to the lessons taught at home, they will attend in-person classes on Sundays.
- If the student is currently a 4th, 5th, or 6th grader, in addition to the lessons taught at home, they will attend in-person classes on Sundays.
- If the student has not been baptized and is 9 years old (or will be 9 years old BEFORE receiving the Sacrament), please contact the Director of Religious Education prior to registering for classes.
- The parent(s)/Guardian(s) are responsible for providing a copy of the Baptismal Certificate before the student will be given lesson materials/online access to courses.
- Participation in all preparation activities including a retreat, rehearsal, and the Sacrament day.
Registration for Religious Education opens in April/May and all students must also attend in-person classes on Sunday (exceptions are made for medical needs). Once the registration deadline has passed, we have several other options available for new families. Contact the Director of Religious Education at 615-893-1843 ext. 1012.
