The Ascension of the Lord: A World to be Evangelized

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

The Ascension of Jesus marks the conclusion of His earthly ministry. The mission now is entrusted to the disciples to “go throughout the world and bring the good news”. This is the missionary mandate we all have received from the earlier Church all the way to today’s disciples.

In the living out of this mission, the disciple is aware that he or she is sent by the risen Christ, not by his own initiative. He is also aware that the mission is universal, not limited to a place and time nor to a specific people. Here no discrimination is allowed by the risen Lord. We the disciples are sent to all nations.

We are sent to continue the ministry of Jesus, crucified and risen, to announce the Good News and sow the seeds of the Kingdom. To baptize in the theology of Mark is necessary for salvation.

The Gospel mentions the signs which will accompany the disciples in mission, drive our demons, speak new languages, provide immunity to dangerous poison, and power to heal the sick. Through these signs God manifests His care towards the needy and His protection for his disciples. In this way the disciples are like their Master Jesus, under whom the Father’s protection, gave Himself up and embraced the practice of goodness and mercy, always attentive to the sufferings of others. May the Holy Spirit assist us in carrying out the mission entrusted to us by the risen Lord in today’s world.

La Ascensión del Señor: Un Mundo para ser Evangelizado

Queridos discípulos, paz.

La Ascensión de Jesús marca la conclusión de Su ministerio terrenal. La misión ahora se confía a los discípulos a “ir por todo el mundo y llevar la buena nueva”. Este es el mandato misionero que todos hemos recibido desde la Iglesia anterior hasta los discípulos de hoy.

Al vivir esta misión, el discípulo es consciente de que es enviado por Cristo resucitado, no por iniciativa propia. También es consciente de que la misión es universal, no limitada a un lugar y tiempo ni a un pueblo concreto. Aquí el Señor resucitado no permite ninguna discriminación. Nosotros los discípulos somos enviados a todas las naciones.

Somos enviados a continuar el ministerio de Jesús crucificado y resucitado, a anunciar la Buena Nueva y sembrar las semillas del Reino. Bautizar en la teología de Marcos es necesario para la salvación.

El Evangelio menciona los signos que acompañarán a los discípulos en la misión, expulsarán nuestros demonios, hablarán nuevos idiomas, proporcionan inmunidad a venenos peligrosos y el poder para curar a los enfermos. A través de estos signos Dios manifiesta su cuidado hacia los necesitados y su protección para sus discípulos. De este modo los discípulos son como su Maestro Jesús, bajo quien, bajo la protección del Padre, se entregó y abrazó la práctica del bien y de la misericordia, siempre atentos a los sufrimientos de los demás. Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude a llevar a cabo la misión que nos ha confiado el Señor resucitado en el mundo de hoy.
