In the Midst of the Storm He Is Calm

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Jesus’ attitude in the midst of this storm is the metaphor for the attitude of every disciple when harassed by tribulations and persecutions.

Jesus’ confidence and serenity, while the boat was thrown all over, are impressive. His attitude is based on His total trust on the Father, in whose hands is His life. Nothing has the power to move Him out of this state of total trust and abandonment.

The apparent carelessness is fruit of the faith and happens only in the life of those who, like Jesus, trust in the Father’s care and protection. The disciple is called to imitate the Master. The infuriated sea is a metaphor of our everyday struggles in living the Kingdom of God in this world. In these circumstances the disciple is challenged to look to the Master sleeping on a cushion and to imitate His trust. And to keep repeating “Jesus I trust in You!”

May the Holy Spirit bless us with the serenity and trust we need to stay faithful even when the sea of life is rebelling.

En Medio de la Tormenta Llega La Calma

Queridos discípulos, paz.

La actitud de Jesús en medio de esta tormenta es la metáfora de la actitud de todo discípulo cuando es acosado por tribulaciones y persecuciones.

La confianza y la serenidad de Jesús, mientras la barca se zozobraba, son impresionantes. Su actitud se basa en su total confianza en el Padre, en cuyas manos está su vida. Nada tiene poder para sacarlo de este estado de total confianza y abandono.

El aparente descuido es fruto de la fe y ocurre sólo en la vida de quien, como Jesús, confía en el cuidado y la protección del Padre. El discípulo está llamado a imitar al Maestro. El mar enfurecido es una metáfora de nuestras luchas cotidianas por vivir el Reino de Dios en este mundo. En estas circunstancias, el discípulo es desafiado a mirar al Maestro durmiendo sobre un cojín e imitar su confianza. Y seguir repitiendo “¡Jesús, en Ti confío!”

Que el Espíritu Santo nos bendiga con la serenidad y la confianza que necesitamos para permanecer fieles incluso cuando el mar de la vida se rebela.
