Let the Mission Begin

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Jesus' mission begins when John the Baptist is arrested. His ministry wasn't parallel nor in competition with John's. Neither was Jesus' ministry the continuation of John's ministry. It was something totally different. The messianic vision of Jesus left aside the preaching of the Baptist and followed its own pattern.

John announced the arrival of a Messiah Judge, who would order the world casting out evildoers and unjust and leaving only the good and righteous. That's why many searched for John's baptism, confessing their sins, not to be rejected at the Messiah's coming.

Jesus followed a different way. He started by forming a group of followers, which would become the Church from Pentecost on. They welcomed His good news and were willing to put into practice the idea of the Kingdom of God He presented. The transformation of history and culture would happen through their hidden actions. They would be able to make justice and right blossom in the lives marked by the Will of God.

In some way, the building up of new worlds is in the hands of the disciples of Jesus. It is their mission to build up a world that walks or runs against the flow of selfishness, evil, and violence. They are, in the history and the world, the presence of the Messiah Jesus, and so they work for the formation of a new society wished by God.

If the disciples cross his/her arms, avoiding his/her prophetic mission and run away from the fight to build up the Kingdom of God, he/she will be rejecting his/her vocation.

May the Holy Spirit empower and guide in the construction of the Kingdom of God right here at Saint Rose of Lima. Especially during the capital campaign and renewal of our campus, may He help to renew our commitment to Jesus and the ministry of the Church.

Que Comience la Misión

Queridos discípulos, paz.

La misión de Jesús comienza cuando arrestan a Juan el Bautista. Su ministerio no fue paralelo ni compitió con el de Juan. El ministerio de Jesús tampoco fue la continuación del ministerio de Juan. Fue algo totalmente diferente. La visión mesiánica de Jesús dejó de lado la predicación del Bautista y siguió su propio patrón.

Juan anunció la llegada de un Mesías Juez, que ordenaría al mundo a expulsar a los malhechores e injustos y dejar sólo a los buenos y justos. Por eso muchos buscaron el bautismo de Juan, confesando sus pecados, para no ser rechazados en la venida del Mesías.

Jesús siguió un camino diferente. Comenzó formando un grupo de seguidores, que se convertiría en la Iglesia a partir de Pentecostés. Acogieron con agrado sus buenas nuevas y estuvieron dispuestos a poner en práctica la idea del Reino de Dios que él presentaba.

La transformación de la historia y la cultura pasaría por sus acciones ocultas. Serían capaces de hacer florecer la justicia y el derecho en las vidas marcadas por la Voluntad de Dios.

De alguna manera, la construcción de nuevos mundos está en manos de los discípulos de Jesús. Su misión es construir un mundo que camine o corra contra la corriente del egoísmo, el mal y la violencia. Son, en la historia y en el mundo, la presencia del Mesías Jesús, y por eso trabajan por la formación de una nueva sociedad querida por Dios.

Si el discípulo se cruza de brazos, evitando su misión profética y huyendo de la lucha por la construcción del Reino de Dios, estará rechazando su vocación.

Que el Espíritu Santo empodere y guíe en la construcción del Reino de Dios aquí mismo en Santa Rosa de Lima. Especialmente durante la campaña capital y la renovación de nuestras instalaciones, que Él ayude a renovar nuestro compromiso con Jesús y el ministerio de la Iglesia.
