"Do not be afraid."

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Peace.

In the Gospel reading, we see an instance in which those who follow Jesus were afraid. That also should make us ponder the relationship of those who followed Jesus in their time; they were insecure. We could also say that even in our time, we are not different from those disciples. We struggle to follow and become afraid or discouraged in times of trouble.

We have in the Gospel Peter, the head of the apostles, which even in his fearfulness still takes courage to get out of the boat and go to Him. Brothers and Sisters, we also are not so different from him; we come across many occasions that make us fearful. Make us even doubt, but Just like Peter, we also are called to go out of that frightening moment of doubt and step out of the boat.

When stepping off the boat, still in fear, we, just like Peter, should still trust and hope that he will be there to give us a hand. That hand that when we reach out is always presented as a sign of hope. That may be the reason to still hope in Him, who always will try to reach us even in our times of trouble and fear. When seeing all that he does for us, just like the apostles, still be able to proclaim, “Truly, you are the Son of God.”

"No tengas miedo."

En la lectura del Evangelio, vemos un caso en el que aquellos que siguen a Jesús tuvieron miedo. Eso también debería hacernos reflexionar sobre la relación de aquellos que siguieron a Jesús en su tiempo; estaban inseguros. También podríamos decir que aún en nuestro tiempo, no somos diferentes de esos discípulos. Luchamos por seguir y tenemos miedo o nos desanimamos en tiempos de problemas.

Tenemos en el Evangelio a Pedro, la cabeza de los apóstoles, que aún en su temor todavía toma valor para salir de la barca e ir a Él. Hermanos y hermanas, nosotros tampoco somos tan diferentes de él; nos encontramos con muchas ocasiones que nos hace temerosos. Incluso nos hace dudar, pero al igual que Pedro, también estamos llamados a salir de ese momento aterrador de duda y salir del bote.

Al bajar del barco, aún con miedo, nosotros, al igual que Pedro, debemos confiar y esperar que él estará allí para ayudarnos. Esa mano que cuando la tendemos se presenta siempre como signo de esperanza. Esa puede ser la razón para seguir esperando en Él, quien siempre tratará de alcanzarnos, incluso en nuestros momentos de angustia y temor. Al ver todo lo que hace por nosotros, al igual que los apóstoles, todavía podemos proclamar: "Verdaderamente, eres el Hijo de Dios".
