"Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

This is a question that resounds in the Gospel. We have the apostles answering with the things they have heard from others. Then Jesus follows with another question, "But who do you say that I am?" and the one that speaks is Peter. If we have been attentive in the previous Sunday readings, Peter has been very outspoken. Only sometimes saying the right thing, and yet being the first one. In this Gospel Reading, he does not make an exception. However, if we pay attention, the disciples can say what others have said about Jesus, but only Peter expresses his faith.

Peter is often not seen in the Gospel as very clever, yet he is named the head of the church because he can proclaim what was revealed to him by God. There are things we often can proclaim of our faith, and most of the time, we can proclaim what we have heard from others. Nevertheless, when it comes to our faith, we can remember and recite what others tell us; that is not wrong.

There is a challenge for each of us as Peter to be able to proclaim that we have a relationship with God. Can we tell others who God is for us? Who is Christ for you? To proclaim that, first, we need to be open to having a real relationship with the Father, then to be open to creating a relationship with the Son in an intimate conversation through prayer. Finally, open to the Holy Spirit and take up the challenge to proclaim the real presence of God in our lives. And express that just as Peter, be able to say, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Esta es una pregunta que resuena en el Evangelio. Tenemos a los apóstoles respondiendo con las cosas que han oído de otros. Entonces Jesús sigue con otra pregunta: "¿Pero vosotros quién decís que soy yo?" y el que habla es Pedro. Si hemos estado atentos en las lecturas del domingo anterior, Peter ha sido muy franco. Solo a veces decir lo correcto y, sin embargo, ser el primero. En este Evangelio, no hace una excepción. Sin embargo, si prestamos atención, los discípulos pueden decir lo que otros han dicho acerca de Jesús, pero solo Pedro es el único que puede expresar su fe.

Pedro a menudo no es visto en el Evangelio como muy inteligente, sin embargo, se le nombra cabeza de la iglesia porque puede proclamar lo que Dios le ha revelado. Hay cosas que a menudo podemos proclamar de nuestra fe y, la mayoría de las veces, podemos proclamar lo que hemos escuchado de otros. Sin embargo, cuando se trata de nuestra fe, podemos recordar y recitar lo que otros nos dicen; eso no esta mal.

Hay un desafío para cada uno de nosotros como Pedro, ser capaces de proclamar que tenemos una relación con Dios. ¿Podemos decirles a otros quién es Dios para nosotros? ¿Quién es Cristo para ti? Para proclamar que, primero, necesitamos estar abiertos a tener una relación real con el Padre, luego estar abiertos a crear una relación con el Hijo en una conversación íntima a través de la oración. Finalmente, abrirse al Espíritu Santo y asumir el desafío de proclamar la presencia real de Dios en nuestras vidas. Y expresar que así como Pedro, poder decir: "Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente".
