Jesus Praises the humble, the little ones

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

In the time of Jesus, many scribes gave too much importance to themselves. They seemed to feel superior as compared to others, as if they had some religious knowledge unattainable by others. They saw themselves closer to God more than their fellow men and held the knowledge of God’s will.

In Matthew’s community there were Christian leaders with the same mentality. Maybe because they were part of the community for a long time, they judged themselves as more experienced in the things of the Kingdom of God and superior regarding those newcomers or those from an inferior social class.

Today’s Gospel teaching breaks their sand castles, and dismantles their behaviors. The revelation of God’s business depends only on God, it is His initiative. He reveals it to whom he pleases. His favorites are the humble, the little ones. To the so-called wise and learned it is enough their own wisdom accumulates by their own effort. However, it is not divine wisdom, but rather human wisdom, useless when we try to speak about God with propriety and knowledge of cause.

The humble, the little ones, in their simplicity, are apt and open to receive such revelation and speak of God better than many masters who create pedestals for themselves. If we do not receive our wisdom from God, our speeches are only nice words put together and vain philosophy.

May the Holy Spirit help to be always humble in awe of God’s love revealed to us in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Jesús Bendice a los Humildes, a los Pequeños

Queridos discípulos, paz.

En tiempos de Jesús, muchos escribas se daban demasiada importancia a sí mismos. Parecían sentirse superiores en comparación con los demás, como si tuvieran algún conocimiento religioso inalcanzable para otros. Se veían a sí mismos más cerca de Dios que sus semejantes y tenían el conocimiento de la voluntad de Dios.

En la comunidad de Mateo había líderes Cristianos con la misma mentalidad. Tal vez por haber sido parte de la comunidad por mucho tiempo, pensaban de sí mismos como más experimentados en las cosas del Reino de Dios y superiores respecto a los recién llegados o de clase social inferior.

La enseñanza del Evangelio de hoy rompe sus castillos de arena y desmantela sus comportamientos. La revelación de las intenciones de Dios depende solo de Dios, es Su iniciativa. Él lo revela a quien le place. Sus favoritos son los humildes, los pequeños. A los llamados sabios y eruditos les basta acumular su propia sabiduría por su propio esfuerzo. Sin embargo, no es sabiduría divina, sino sabiduría humana, inútil cuando tratamos de hablar de Dios con propiedad y conocimiento de causa. Los humildes, los pequeños, en su sencillez, son aptos y abiertos para recibir tal revelación y hablan de Dios mejor que muchos maestros que se hacen pedestales. Si no recibimos nuestra sabiduría de Dios, nuestros discursos son solo palabras bonitas juntas y vana filosofía.

Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude a ser siempre humildes en el asombro del amor de Dios revelado a nosotros en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.
