Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Jesus' words in today's Gospel are among the most challenging words of discipleship: "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me."

Peter has just confessed that Jesus is the Messiah. But when Jesus explains that the Messiah must suffer, be rejected, and be killed, Peter cannot accept it. He wants a Messiah without the cross. Jesus reminds him that God's way is different from human expectations.

This is also a temptation for us. We can easily desire a Christianity without sacrifice, a discipleship without commitment, a mission without difficulties, and a religion of convenience. But Jesus does not call us simply to admire Him. He calls us to follow Him.

To deny ourselves does not mean rejecting our dignity or thinking that we are worthless. It means putting Christ and His Gospel before our own comfort, preferences, ambitions, and sometimes even our fears. Taking up the cross means remaining faithful when following Jesus becomes difficult.

And this is where mission begins. We cannot be convincing missionaries if we are unwilling to be faithful disciples. The world does not need Christians who only speak about Christ; it needs Christians who allow Christ to be seen in the way they live, forgive, serve, sacrifice, and love.

Discipleship implies daily conversion and adapting every area of our life to Jesus's way. From the very simple areas, like what to wear to go to Mass on Sunday and not use our phone during Mass, all the way to the more serious decisions, like our profession or vocation in life.

Jesus asks us today: What does following Him really cost me? What cross am Ibeing invited to embrace with faith rather than avoid? Perhaps it is patience with someone difficult, forgiveness that seems impossible, fidelity to a vocation, generosity with our time, or courage to witness to the Gospel.

Jesus concludes: "What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?" The world may measure success by possessions, recognition, power, or comfort. Jesus measures it by Faithfulness and love.

As we celebrate this Eucharist, let us ask for the grace to follow Christ not only when the path is easy, but also when it leads to the cross. A true disciple carries the cross with Christ, and a true missionary brings Christ to others through that faithful love.

May our lives say clearly: Jesus is not only the One I believe in; He is the One I follow.

May the Holy Spirit help us to not only admire, but alsofollow and embrace Jesus way oflife.

22.º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Queridos Discípulos, paz.

Las palabras de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy se encuentran entre las más desafiantes en cuanto al discipulado: "El que quiera venir conmigo, que renuncie a sí mismo, que tome su cruz y me siga".

Pedro acaba de confesar que Jesús es el Mesías. Pero cuando Jesús le explica que el Mesías debe sufrir, ser rechazado y morir, Pedro no puede aceptarlo. Él quiere un Mesías sin la cruz. Jesús le recuerda que el camino de Dios es diferente de las expectativas humanas.

Esto también representa una tentación para nosotros. Podemos desear fácilmente un cristianismo sin sacrificio, un discipulado sin compromiso, una misión sin dificultades y una religión de conveniencia. Pero Jesús no nos llama simplemente a admirarlo. Nos llama a seguirlo.

Negarnos a nosotros mismos no significa rechazar nuestra dignidad ni creernos inútiles. Significa anteponer a Cristo y su Evangelio a nuestra comodidad, preferencias, ambiciones e incluso, a veces, a nuestros miedos. Tomar la cruz significa permanecer fieles cuando seguir a Jesús se vuelve difícil.

Y aquí es donde comienza la misión. No podemos ser misioneros convincentes si no estamos dispuestos a ser discípulos fieles. El mundo no necesita cristianos que solo hablen de Cristo; necesita cristianos que permitan que Cristo se manifieste en su forma de vivir, perdonar, servir, sacrificarse y amar.

El discipulado implica una conversión diaria y adaptar cada aspecto de nuestra vida al camino de Jesús. Desde lo más sencillo, como qué ropa usar para ir a misa los domingos y no usar el teléfono durante la misa, hasta decisiones más importantes, como nuestra profesión o vocación.

Jesús nos pregunta hoy: ¿Qué precio tengo realmente por seguirle? ¿Qué cruz se me invita a abrazar con fe en lugar de evitarla? Quizás sea la paciencia con alguien difícil, el perdón que parece imposible, la fidelidad a la vocación, la generosidad con nuestro tiempo o el valor para dar testimonio del Evangelio.

Jesús concluye: "¿De qué le sirve al hombre ganar el mundo entero si pierde su vida?" El mundo puede medir el éxito por las posesiones, el reconocimiento, el poder o'la comodidad. Jesús lo mide por la fidelidad y el amor.

Al celebrar esta Eucaristía, pidamos la gracia de seguir a Cristo no solo cuando el camino es fácil, sino también cuando nos lleva a la cruz. Un verdadero discípulo carga la cruz con Cristo, y un verdadero misionero lleva a Cristo a los demås a través de ese amor fiel.

Que nuestras vidas digan claramente: Jesús no es solo en quien creo; Él es a quien sigo.

Que el Espiritu Santo nos ayude no solo a admirar, sino también a seguir y adoptar el estilo de vida de Jesús.
