The Call to Love and Serve: A Reflection on Christ’s Mission

Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

Today’s Gospel brings us to the shores of the Sea of Tiberias, where the Risen Christ meets His disciples once again. After a long night of fishing without success, Jesus appears and directs them to cast their nets differently—and they are overwhelmed with a great catch.

This moment reminds us: when we listen to the voice of Christ, even in our tiredness and failures, He brings fruitfulness.

But even more moving is what happens next. Around a simple breakfast, Jesus turns to Peter and asks three times: “Do you love me?” Each time Peter says yes, and each time Jesus entrusts him with a mission: “Feed my sheep.”

This is not just about Peter’s healing after his denial—it is about his mission as the first pope—but it is also about our own journey.

Christ comes to us not to shame us for our failures, but to call us anew. He meets us in our weakness and invites us to love Him again and then to share that love by caring for others.

Today, the Risen Lord asks us the same question: “Do you love me?” And if we say yes—even imperfectly—He gives us a mission: to love, to serve, and to be His witnesses in the world.

May the Holy Spirit inspire our answer to be like Peter’s: humble, trusting, and full of hope.

La llamada a amar y servir: Una reflexión sobre la misión de Cristo

Queridos Discípulos, paz.

El evangelio de hoy nos lleva a las orillas del mar de Tiberíades, donde Cristo Resucitado se encuentra una vez más con sus discípulos. Después de una larga noche de pesca sin éxito, Jesús aparece y les indica que lancen sus redes de otra manera, y quedan abrumados con una gran captura.

Este momento nos recuerda: cuando escuchamos la voz de Cristo, incluso en nuestros cansancios y fracasos, Él trae fecundidad.

Pero aún más conmovedor es lo que sucede a continuación. En torno a un sencillo desayuno, Jesús se dirige a Pedro y le pregunta tres veces: “¿Me amas?” Cada vez Pedro dice que sí, y cada vez Jesús le confía una misión: “Apacienta mis ovejas.”

No se trata sólo de la curación de Pedro después de su negación, se trata de su misión como primer Papa, sino también de nuestro propio viaje.

Cristo viene a nosotros no para avergonzarnos por nuestros fracasos, sino para llamarnos de nuevo. Él nos encuentra en nuestra debilidad y nos invita a amarlo nuevamente, y luego a compartir ese amor cuidando de los demás.

Hoy, el Señor Resucitado nos hace la misma pregunta: “¿Me amas?” Y si decimos que sí, aunque sea de manera imperfecta, Él nos da una misión: amar, servir, ser sus testigos en el mundo.

Que el Espíritu Santo inspire nuestra respuesta para que sea como la de Pedro: humilde, confiada y llena de esperanza.
