Pathway to Progress: September Update

Marian Center
Design work for the new Marian Center is progressing. Bauer Askew Architects have delivered floor plans and renderings, which have been shared through various channels and are on display in the Narthex. Parishioners were invited to vote on the roof design, with over 90% favoring the gable roof option. On August 29, the Finance Committee reviewed the project along with the schematic-level cost estimates and gave their approval to proceed with the final design.

Storage Facilities at Stonewall House
To accommodate a larger storage building and additional parking at Stonewall House, a special exemption was required from the Murfreesboro Board of Zoning Appeals. This request was presented on August 28 and received approval. The Finance Committee, in their August 29 meeting, approved moving forward with the added parking. However, they recommended delaying construction of the large storage building to prioritize funding for the new Marian Center. Temporary storage solutions will be used for items currently housed in the Marian Center until the Stonewall storage building project can proceed.

Athletic Field Relocation
During an update to the wetland delineation of the Saint Rose of Lima Woodland Sanctuary (SRWS), we discovered the presence of the Tennessee Streamside Salamander (Ambystomabarbouri), a species of concern due to its limited range and specific habitat requirements. Although not currently listed as endangered or threatened, it requires monitoring.The construction of the athletic fields will impact approximately one acre of wetlands, necessitating an Aquatic Resource Alteration Permit (ARAP). If these wetlands are classified as "Waters of the U.S." or jurisdictional wetlands, a Corps 404 permit will also be required.

On August 7, we held a pre-regulatory meeting with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the Corps of Engineers to discuss acceptable mitigation procedures. We are now preparing the necessary documentation for these permits. Once approved, we will proceed with the design phase of the athletic field relocation project.
