Transfiguration: Glory, Faith, and the Journey of Lent

Dear Fellow Disciples, Peace.

I'm writing this reflection from a kind of mountaintop, the Monastery of the Father of Mercy in Auburn, KY, where I'm spending some days in retreat.

Today’s Gospel takes us to the mountain where Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James, and John. His face shines like the sun, and His clothes become dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appear, speaking with Him, and the voice of the Father declares, “This is my chosen Son; listen to Him.”

This moment of glory comes just after Jesus tells His disciples about His coming suffering and death. It reminds us that beyond the trials of life, beyond the sacrifices of Lent, there is the hope of resurrection. The Transfiguration reassures us that suffering is not the end; God’s glory awaits those who remain faithful.

Like Peter, we may want to stay on the mountaintop, clinging to moments of spiritual consolation. But Jesus calls us to go back down the mountain and continue the journey of faith, carrying our crosses with trust in Him.

As we continue this Lenten journey, may we listen to Jesus, follow Him faithfully, and keep our eyes fixed on the glory He promises to those who persevere. May the Holy Spirit help us to find an answer to the question: "How is Jesus calling me to listen to Him more deeply this Lent?"

May He also help us to hear God's voice in our daily life and give us the strength to walk the path of faith, knowing that His glory awaits. Amen.

Transfiguración: Gloria, fe y el camino de la Cuaresma

Queridos Discípulos, paz.

Estoy escribiendo esta reflexión desde una especie de cima de montaña, el monasterio del Padre de Mery en Auburn KY, donde estoy pasando unos días de retiro.

El Evangelio de hoy nos lleva al monte donde Jesús se transfigura ante Pedro, Santiago y Juan. Su rostro resplandece como el sol y sus vestiduras se tornan de una blancura deslumbrante. Moisés y Elías aparecen hablando con él, y la voz del Padre declara: «Este es mi Hijo elegido; escúchenlo».

Este momento de gloria llega justo después de que Jesús les habla a sus discípulos sobre su sufrimiento y muerte venideros. Nos recuerda que más allá de las pruebas de la vida, más allá de los sacrificios de la Cuaresma, existe la esperanza de la resurrección. La Transfiguración nos asegura que el sufrimiento no es el fin; la gloria de Dios aguarda a quienes permanecen fieles.

Como Pedro, quizá queramos permanecer en la cima, aferrándonos a momentos de consuelo espiritual. Pero Jesús nos llama a bajar y continuar el camino de la fe, cargando nuestras cruces con confianza en Él.

Mientras continuamos este camino cuaresmal, escuchemos a Jesús, sigámoslo fielmente y mantengamos nuestros ojos fijos en la gloria que Él promete a quienes perseveran. Que el Espíritu Santo nos ayude a encontrar respuesta a la pregunta: "¿Cómo me llama Jesús a escucharlo más profundamente en esta Cuaresma?".

Que Él también nos ayude a escuchar la voz de Dios en nuestra vida diaria; nos dé la fuerza para andar por el camino de la fe, sabiendo que su gloria nos espera. Amén.
