Dear Fellow Disciples, peace.

In today’s Gospel (Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21), we witness Jesus reading from the scroll of Isaiah in the synagogue of Nazareth. He declares, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… He has sent me to proclaim good news to the poor, liberty to captives, sight to the blind, freedom for the oppressed, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Jesus announces that He is the fulfillment of this prophecy.

This moment highlights the transformative power of God’s Word. It is not distant or abstract; it is living and active, fulfilled in Jesus. The Word of God gives hope, sets us free from sin, heals our spiritual blindness, and unites us as the Body of Christ.

In the first reading (Nehemiah 8:2-10), we see a similar scene of people gathered to hear the Word of God. They are moved to tears, realizing the depth of God’s love and mercy. Ezra and Nehemiah encourage them to rejoice because the joy of the Lord is their strength.

As Catholics, we are invited to center our lives on God’s Word. It is not just a text to be read but a message to be lived. Do we allow the Word of God to challenge us, comfort us, and shape our daily actions?

As we celebrate this Sunday of the Word of God, declared by Pope Francis on September 30, 2019, let us also remember that we are called to embody Christ’s mission. The poor, the captives, the blind, the oppressed, and the immigrants are still among us. How can we be instruments of liberation and healing in their lives?

Today, let us rejoice in the gift of God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in living it out. May our lives proclaim, like Jesus, that God’s Kingdom is here, bringing hope, healing, and unity to all.

La Palabra De Dios Trae Vida Y Unidad

Queridos discípulos, paz.

En el Evangelio de hoy (Lucas 1:1-4; 4:14-21), somos testigos de la lectura de Jesús del rollo de Isaías en la sinagoga de Nazaret. Él declara: “El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí… Me ha enviado a proclamar buenas nuevas a los pobres, libertad a los cautivos, vista a los ciegos, libertad a los oprimidos, y a proclamar el año de gracia del Señor”. Jesús anuncia que Él es el cumplimiento de esta profecía.

Este momento resalta el poder transformador de la Palabra de Dios. No es distante ni abstracto; es viva y activa, cumplida en Jesús. La Palabra de Dios da esperanza, nos libera del pecado, sana nuestra ceguera espiritual y nos une como Cuerpo de Cristo.

En la primera lectura (Nehemías 8:2-10), vemos una escena similar de personas reunidas para escuchar la Palabra de Dios. Se conmueven hasta las lágrimas al darse cuenta de la profundidad del amor y la misericordia de Dios. Esdras y Nehemías los animan a regocijarse porque el gozo del Señor es su fortaleza.

Como católicos, estamos invitados a centrar nuestras vidas en la Palabra de Dios. No es sólo un texto para leer sino un mensaje para vivir. ¿Permitimos que la Palabra de Dios nos desafíe, nos consuele y dé forma a nuestras acciones diarias?

Al celebrar este domingo de la Palabra de Dios, declarado por el Papa Francisco el 30 de septiembre de 2019, recordemos también que estamos llamados a encarnar la misión de Cristo. Los pobres, los cautivos, los ciegos y los oprimidos, los inmigrantes, todavía están entre nosotros. ¿Cómo podemos ser instrumentos de liberación y sanación en sus vidas?

Hoy, regocijémonos en el don de la Palabra de Dios y pidamos al Espíritu Santo que nos guíe para vivirla. Que nuestras vidas proclamen, como Jesús, que el Reino de Dios está aquí, trayendo esperanza, sanación y unidad a todos.
