Come, Lord Jesus!

11-28-2021Weekly ReflectionFr. John Sims Baker

As we begin Advent, we need to refocus on the coming of Jesus. What could be better than for the Lord Jesus to come again? I want to see Him. I am sure that you do too. Of course, His coming again will mark the end of this world of time and change and imperfection. His coming again will begin the new world of eternal life and glory. The season of Advent is about this longing to see Jesus when He comes.

We need to be ready. Again this is why the Church gives us the season of Advent every year. It is easy for us to become complacent and to think that we have plenty of time to change. The Church leads into Advent with the call to repentance. With the figure of St. John the Baptist, the call to repentance is tied to the coming of Jesus. And then the Church leads us to Bethlehem, where the Lord came the first time in such a surprising and beautiful way. Who can resist the call to the manger to see the infant Jesus? And yet, He is Lord! Let's get ready.

Faithfully,
Fr. Baker

Fielmente,
El Padre Baker
