St. Michael the Archangel, Pray for Us

Saint Rose of Lima Parish is very grateful to receive a new statue of St. Michael the Archangel from our Guatemalan community. The statue is based on an image and devotion to St. Michael in the city of Totonicapan. We have a number of parishioners from this area of Guatemala. There are features of the statue that are familiar, for example, St. Michael's wings as an angel and his sword as the leader of the hosts of Heaven. In this image, however, his armour is like that of a Roman soldier's, and he is also holding a scale. The statue is based on an apparition of St. Michael which occurred over 400 years ago in Totonicapan.

This statue enriches the devotional life of our parish in a significant way. As a community, after the celebration of Mass in both English and Spanish we pray together the prayer to St. Michael for protection against the devil and all evil spirits. We will now have a focus for this devotion to the great Archangel! The statute will also be a visible sign of unity in our parish. Muchas gracias to our Guatemalan community!

The statue of St. Michael the Archangel will be blessed at the Spanish Mass on Tuesday evening, February 16 at 7:00pm. All are welcome!

La parroquia de Santa Rosa de Lima está muy agradecida de recibir una nueva estatua de San Miguel Arcángel de nuestra comunidad guatemalteca. La estatua está basada en una imagen y devoción a San Miguel en la ciudad de Totonicapán. Tenemos varios feligreses de esta zona de Guatemala. Hay características de la estatua que son familiares, por ejemplo, las alas de San Miguel como ángel y su espada como líder de las huestes del Cielo. En esta imagen, sin embargo, su armadura es como la de un soldado romano, y también sostiene una balanza. La estatua se basa en una aparición de San Miguel que ocurrió hace más de 400 años en Totonicapán.

Esta estatua enriquece de manera significativa la vida devocional de nuestra parroquia. Como comunidad, después de la celebración de la Misa tanto en inglés como en español, rezamos juntos la oración a San Miguel pidiendo protección contra el diablo y todos los espíritus malignos. ¡Ahora tendremos un enfoque para esta devoción al gran Arcángel! El estatuto también será un signo visible de unidad en nuestra parroquia. ¡Muchas gracias a nuestra comunidad guatemalteca!

La estatua del Arcangel San MIguel será bendecida en la Misa de Español el martes, 16 de Febrero, en la Misa de las 7:00pm. Todos son bienvenidos.
