Come, Holy Spirit, Come

It is wonderful and Providential that the preparation for the Solemnity of Pentecost is coinciding with the beginning of reopening the parish. We need the Holy Spirit now! As I have said before, I have no interest in "going back to normal." I believe that God has given us a chance for a new beginning. How is the Holy Spirit leading us to be the place of encounter with the fullness of Christ in this community? How is the Holy Spirit calling us deeper into a culture of prayer, of active discipleship, and of healthy teamwork? How is the Holy Spirit leading us from obligation to devotion? Let's be open and docile to the Holy Spirit. As we start to celebrate Mass together again, we notice that we are doing many things differently, and yet it is the Mass! I believe that the Holy Spirit is shaking us up for a reason so that we will listen and follow where we might not have gone if things remained "normal." That is certainly true for me, and I thank God for the challenge. One week to Pentecost!

Ven, Espíritu Santo, Ven

Es maravilloso y providencial que la preparación para la solemnidad de Pentecostés coincida con el comienzo de la reapertura de la parroquia. ¡Necesitamos el Espíritu Santo ahora! Como he dicho antes, no me interesa "volver a la normalidad". Creo que Dios nos ha dado la oportunidad de un nuevo comienzo. ¿Cómo nos conduce el Espíritu Santo a ser el lugar de encuentro con la plenitud de Cristo en esta comunidad? ¿Cómo nos está llamando el Espíritu Santo a una cultura de oración, de discipulado activo y de trabajo saludable en equipo? ¿Cómo nos está guiando el Espíritu Santo de la obligación a la devoción? Seamos abiertos y dóciles al Espíritu Santo. Cuando comencemos a celebrar la Misa juntos de nuevo, nos daremos cuenta de que estamos haciendo muchas cosas de manera diferente, ¡y sin embargo es lo que se hace en la Misa! Creo que el Espíritu Santo nos está sacudiendo para que podamos escuchar y caminar a donde no podríamos haber ido si las cosas hubieran seguido "normales". Eso es cierto para mí, y le agradezco a Dios por el desafío. ¡Una semana para Pentecostés!
