Resurrection

We celebrate the central mystery of our faith in Jesus Christ today: His resurrection from the dead. Jesus Christ is savior. He saves us from sin and death. No one else can do this. Sin and death still remain in the world, but they have lost their power. If we go through them with Jesus, as we have this Holy Week, we will also rise with Him. This is true in our lives. It is true in our parish. We know that Jesus saves and that He forgives.

I made an announcement to the parish a couple of weeks ago of some hard news. I have had to do this before, already in my short time here. I am sure that I will have to do it again. The fallenness and brokenness of this world is always around us. Christians are not spared these experiences. We are not, however, troubled by them. We know that in Jesus somehow "all is for good," in the words of St. Paul. We can forgive and wish all well, even as we cope with the consequences of living in a fallen world. This is how we witness to the power and the truth of the resurrection in ordinary life. The risen body of Jesus retains the wounds of his passion, but it is glorious and new.

Resurrección

Celebramos el misterio central de nuestra fe en Jesucristo hoy: su resurrección de entre los muertos. Jesucristo es el salvador. Él nos salva del pecado y de la muerte. Nadie más puede hacer esto. El pecado y la muerte aún permanecen en el mundo, pero han perdido su poder. Si pasamos por ellos con Jesús, como lo hemos hecho en esta Semana Santa, también nos levantaremos con él. Esto es verdad en nuestras vidas y tambié en nuestra parroquia. Sabemos que Jesús salva y que perdona.

Hace un par de semanas hice un anuncio a la parroquia de algunas noticias difíciles. He tenido que hacer esto antes, ya en mi poco tiempo de servir aquí. Estoy seguro de que tendré que hacerlo de nuevo. La caída y quebrantamiento de este mundo está siempre a nuestro alrededor. Los cristianos no se salvan de estas experiencias. Sin embargo, no estamos preocupados por ellos. Sabemos que en Jesús de alguna manera "todo estará bien", en las palabras de San Pablo. Podemos perdonar y desear todo bien, incluso cuando nos enfrentamos a las consecuencias de vivir en un mundo caído. Así es como damos testimonio del poder y la verdad de la resurrección en la vida ordinaria. El cuerpo resucitado de Jesús retiene las heridas de su pasión, pero es glorioso y nuevo.
