Elements of the Mass

12-02-2018Weekly ReflectionFr. John Sims Baker

In an earlier message, I mentioned that some changes are coming along here in the parish. There are a few changes in the liturgy that will be beginning this weekend. As it is the first weekend of the liturgical year, it seems like a good time to start.

In order to help you to understand not only the rationale for these changes but mainly in order to understand the liturgy more deeply, I want to provide you with some very helpful and accessible resources from the Liturgical Institute, located at Mundeleine Seminary of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

The former head of the Institute, Fr. Douglas Martis produced a series of videos on the liturgy that are both short (3-5 minutes each) and very informative. They even have study guides provided. (Fr. Martis was Director of Sacred Liturgy at the Josephinum, the seminary where I served as vice rector of the college. I respect him highly.)

Please avail yourself of these resources, as we grow in understanding and love of the sacred liturgy!

Faithfully,
Fr. Baker
