The Altar as Jesus

As the Procession reaches the sanctuary, the priest reverences the altar by kissing it. This might seem a bit odd as a way to reverence a piece of furniture, but that is exactly what the altar is not! The altar is the focus for the presence of Jesus at the Mass and so that kiss is a greeting for Jesus. Everything about the altar should be treated with the dignity we want to show to the Lord. The altar should be the focal point of the sanctuary. Even when the Blessed Sacrament is present in the sanctuary, the highest reverence is paid to the altar during Mass. One should never pass in front of the altar without bowing, for example. The altar is where Heaven meets Earth, when Jesus becomes present in the Eucharist. We should never treat or consider the altar as an ordinary piece of furniture. The altar is Jesus!

Al Altar Como Jesús

Cuando la procesión llega al santuario, el sacerdote venera el altar besándolo. Esto puede parecer un poco extraño como una forma de reverenciar un mueble, ¡pero eso es exactamente lo que no es el altar! El altar es el enfoque de la presencia de Jesús en la misa, por lo que ese beso es un saludo para Jesús. Todo lo relacionado con el altar debe tratarse con la dignidad que queremos mostrarle al Señor. El altar debe ser el punto de enfoque del santuario. Incluso cuando el Santísimo Sacramento está presente en el santuario, la más grande reverencia se le rinde al altar durante la Misa. Uno nunca debe pasar frente al altar sin inclinarse, por ejemplo. El altar es donde el cielo se encuentra con la tierra, cuando Jesús se hace presente en la Eucaristía. Nunca debemos tratar o considerar el altar como un mueble ordinario. ¡El altar es Jesús!
